The Story Behind the Artist's Launch Academy

Updated: Dec 10

You know that moment when you realize you've stumbled onto something bigger than yourself?

That's exactly what happened to me last February when I was working with my first artist client.

There I was, chatting about marketing strategies I'd used countless times with other business owners, when I noticed something that stopped me in my tracks – this incredibly talented artist had no idea how to market her work effectively. Not because she wasn't capable, but because no one had ever taught her how.

Kasi, dressed in a patterned cardigan, olive tank top, and dark jeans, stands smiling in front of a row of disassembled trucks under a clear blue sky. The vehicles appear to be part of an automotive lot, with trees and a wire fence visible in the background. This photo represents her time working as a web designer for automotive business owners.

Let me back up a bit and introduce myself. I'm Kasi, I am the owner of J&K Online Development and your instructor at Artist's Launch Academy. I've spent the last four years as a web designer and SEO specialist, primarily helping counselors and mental health professionals grow their practices.

But my connection to the art world? That goes way back to watching my older sister draw when I was just seven years old. I was that typical middle child, you know? Always wanting to do whatever my big sister was doing. I watched her talent bloom year after year, especially in high school when she dove deep into art classes.

That's also when I first witnessed something that would later fuel my passion for creating this academy. My dad, meaning well (I suppose), told my sister she couldn't make a living as an artist.

But here's the thing about my sister - she's one of those unstoppable forces. Today, she's raising her son and creating an amazing comic series, proving that artists absolutely can succeed when they have the right support and tools. She is also currently creating the official logo for Artist's Launch Academy.

The Gap No One Was Talking About

After that eye-opening experience with my first artist client, I knew I had to dig deeper.

I interviewed over 100 artists about their marketing experiences, and what I found was pretty shocking. Whether they were self-taught or had formal education, the story was the same: no real marketing education.

Sure, some had learned about grant writing or how to approach galleries, and practically everyone had been told to "just use social media," but that was about it.

Let's be real – telling artists to "just use social media" is like telling a chef to "just use a stove." Yes, it's a tool, but it's not the whole kitchen! That's when I realized we needed something more comprehensive, something that actually understood how artists think and work.

Building Something Different: The Academy's Three Pillars

The Artist's Launch Academy isn't just another marketing course – it's built specifically for how artists think and create. Here's how we're making marketing feel less like a chore and more like an extension of your creative process:

1. Education That Actually Makes Sense

We're starting with seven core courses that take you from marketing basics through website launch and campaign planning. But here's the twist – we're not just throwing marketing jargon at you and hoping it sticks. Instead, we're approaching it like an art technique you'd learn in the studio. You get the theory, sure, but more importantly, you get the "how" and the "why" in a way that actually connects with your creative brain.

2. Community That Gets You

You know how some art techniques just click better when you learn them alongside other artists? Marketing's the same way. We've created a space where artists can share ideas, collaborate, and grow together. It's not just about social media strategies (though we cover those too) – it's about building a complete marketing ecosystem that feels authentic to who you are as an artist.

3. Practical Application That Feels Natural

Remember art school projects where you'd learn a technique and then immediately try it out? That's exactly how we've structured our Launch Workbook. Think of it as your marketing sketchbook – a place to experiment, practice, and develop your marketing voice just like you developed your artistic style.

The graffiti includes playful scribbles like 'Anti Saint!' and 'Boom Rules' in red and black. To the right, a grayscale photo of a confident woman with long hair, wearing a polka-dotted blouse, is captioned 'Kasi Your Instructor.' The academy's website, 'ArtistsLaunchAcademy.com,' is written at the top.

How It All Comes Together

The academy isn't about turning artists into marketers – it's about helping artists present their work to the world in a way that feels genuine and effective. We're building systems where your website becomes the gallery, social media becomes the preview show, and email marketing becomes your personal connection with collectors.

Here's what makes me especially proud: my sister, the very person who inspired this journey, is designing the academy's logo. It's like everything has come full circle, proving that when artists have the right tools and support, amazing things happen.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Artist Marketing

You know, as we get ready to kick off a brand new year, I'm more excited than ever about what's possible for artists like you who are ready to embrace marketing as part of your creative journey. Because here's the thing - we're not just teaching you a bunch of technical tips and tricks. No, what we're really doing is reshaping the way you connect with your audience, sell your incredible work, and build a sustainable, fulfilling career as a working artist.

Now, the academy is actually still in its pilot phase right now. I handpicked a group of 8 amazing artists to go through the program from December to April, and I'll be using their feedback to refine and perfect the curriculum before we open it up to the public. But I'd love for you to be one of the first to know when we're ready to welcome more artists into the fold!

The best way to stay in the loop is to hop on my email list. That way, you'll be the first to hear updates on the pilot program, get insider peeks at the academy curriculum, and find out when enrollment opens up. Just drop me a message, and let's start planning your creative success story together!
